Ann Palmenberg Junior Investigator Award Application

The ASV Council is delighted to announce the 14th year of the ASV Ann Palmenberg Junior Investigator Awards program to highlight excellence in virology: The purpose of these awards is to recognize junior investigators who have made significant contributions to the field of virology and who display exceptional promise. They are named in honor of former ASV President Dr. Ann Palmenberg, University of Wisconsin-Madison, to recognize her tireless efforts over several decades supporting and continually improving our society.

Details for eligibility

  • Must have an independent position
  • Candidates should be within 5 years of their first independent position
  • Applicants who previously applied for but did not receive a Junior Investigator Award may reapply for the 2026 award if they still meet the eligibility criteria.
  • Applicants who received a previous Ann Palmenberg Junior Investigator Award may not apply.

2026 ASV Ann Palmenberg Junior Investigator Award

  • 15-minute research talk in one of the morning Symposia at the 2026 ASV Annual Meeting. The 45th Annual Meeting will be hosted by the University of Minnesota and held July 27–30, 2026, on its Twin Cities campus in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA.
  • $1,000 cash award presented at the ASV 2026 meeting
  • ASV 2026 registration, accommodation, and travel expenses will be covered by the Society
  • Engraved plaque

Decisions and Announcements:
The ASV Council will review all applications to identify awardees. The applicant’s contributions to virology will be evaluated based on the nomination letter and the biographical sketch. Awardees will be notified before the February 2, 2026 abstract submission deadline. ASV members will learn of their colleagues’ awards at the ASV 2026 meeting.
